2021-2022 School year

November 2021

We are already over 2 months into this school year, and while so much has been accomplished, we had some major technical difficulties that has taken much too long to get this communication active again!  We are happy to say that our website and emails are back up-and-running, and we are looking forward to re-establishing the connections that have been so challenged during this Covid-19 pandemic.

To start... WELCOME! The 2021-2022 PAC Executive would like to welcome both returning and new families to this school year, and are excited to
slowly start to rebuild the events, experiences and programs that make Blakeburn such a wonderful community!

Our main form of communication throughout the school year will be via the school newsletter, so please pay attention to that when it comes. We also utilize this PAC webpage which contains a lot of helpful, ongoing and relevant information. We encourage you to check it often and share it with other parents.  The PAC also has a a group Facebook page, although it is important to remember that not all families utilize Facebook, and thus it is not our main form of communication.

The PAC itself has had some very challenging and untraditional months since the start of this pandemic back in March 2020.  We have had to navigate the many covid-19 restrictions, work with a skeleton of volunteers, and manage a very stripped down and uncertain budget.  The PAC Executive for 2021-2022 was elected and we are re-energized and very excited to start to get back to a more "normal" experience for the students, teachers, staff and parent community.

On behalf of your 2021-2022 PAC Executive,

Anita Wilson
PAC President

Year end 2020-2021 School year

Another year passed... and what a year it was! We saw many changes and obstacles, and it was a year of pivoting and adjusting for everyone. We want to recognize the students, teachers & admin, school support staff, parents & families, and the PAC Executive members; as everyone navigated this pandemic year as best they could in their own ways.  We have learned much and are ready for a new school year to start in the fall.

For those wondering the status of PAC, we had a very untraditional year much like others. We worked within many covid restrictions, a bare minimum of parent involvement, and an uncertain budget.  We are very proud of what was accomplished and ended the year with a positive and productive meeting to help set us up as best as possible for the next school year.
The PAC Executive was elected and we will start the year where we left off... with a positive mindset, a conservative budget, and an update of the current pandemic situation. We will review the position and direction of the PAC at our first meeting, and the parent community will be informed and given an opportunity to be involved.

We welcome you to join our facebook page, whilst keeping in mind that it is a less formal group page and only reaches a small portion of the parent community.  Important and more formal information will be communicated by school email and this website.  We encourage you to check these regularly.

Have a wonderful summer. Be kind. Be calm. Be safe.  See you in September!

On behalf of the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 PAC Executive,

Anita Wilson

Welcome to the new school year... what is happening with Pac?

For those wondering the status of PAC, the simplest way is for me to share some content of an email that was sent out today to our 2019-2020 PAC executive. Hopefully this will summarize where we are at and answer some questions.

Once we have determined the first official meeting date, as well as identifying the PAC needs moving forward (positions, nominations, elections, etc), the parent community will be informed and given an opportunity to be involved more directly.

Please keep an eye on all school emails, and check regularly with the the PAC website as well, as facebook only reaches a small portion of the parent community (attached: PAC executive email excerpt)

Getting ready for the new 2020-2021 school year

21/8/2020

Hello Parent Community,

We hope that everyone is keeping healthy and safe during these unprecedented times. This is a very generic message  to touch base as we have all been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2019 of the 2019-2020 school year.

For those wondering, the PAC has no information and no input with regards to return to school for the 2020-2021 school year, at this time. Please understand and keep in mind that the volunteer parents from last year's PAC have been in the exact same position as all parents, dealing with this new covid situation as parents first. Due to everything being put on hold at the end of last year, the PAC executive that remains from last year won't even be able to properly meet until we know what is happening at the school level.

As much as we are anxious for information, and to have PAC input where we can down the road, we have to understand that the priority of the district and school administration will be focused on the students; and that PAC will be the least of their concern. As soon as we can, the PAC will reconvene and pick up from where it was left off at the end of last year... This will include meeting with school admjnistration, reviewing of minutes, reviewing and settling of financials, setting a new budget, and the need for new and additional PAC members.

We have also not received any confirmation of student enrollment yet and therefore cannot approve new students/families to the PAC page until such time.

If you are a parent who has moved or "graduated" out of the Blakeburn community with your child, we wish you the very best and ask that you please help us out by kindly removing yourself from this group.

We don't know what the upcoming weeks will look like but we will be navigating it as best we can, and will update once we know more.

On behalf of last year's 2019-2020 PAC Executive,

Anita Wilson
