What we do
Blakeburn Elementary has a lane in front of the school dedicated to student drop-offs. The drop-off is intended for students who are able to walk from their car into the school by themselves, and should take less than 30 seconds per drop-off. To ensure the constant flow of traffic, and safe drop-off of our children, parents are asked to pull to the front of the lane, and are not allowed to back-up their cars, or leave their cars unattended. Should parents wish to walk or see their kids right into the front door of the school, they are asked to park on the street and not use the drop-off zone.
How we do it
Traffic direction volunteers work in the drop-off zone from 8:30-8:45am to enforce the principles mentioned above. We ideally work in teams of two, one person at the entrance to the drop-off lane to regulate how many cars enter the lane, and one person directing cars to pull ahead and showing them where to stop. We wear traffic vests in order to be visible at all times.
What you can do
Parent volunteers are needed to do only one shift per week. No special skills are required. This would be ideal for parents who are walking their kids to school anyway. You can sign up for any shift that you like, as few or many as you wish, by clicking below:
